Letters

Letters are optional! Some people like the tradition and the opportunity to organise and format their prompts according to personal style.

If you're writing a letter to potential authors/artists/podfic artists, you can link it here. Please don't link it until it's finished. You can also put your whole letter in a comment or series of comments here, if you don't have another place to host it.

If you write a letter, it must be linked in your sign-up form on AO3 before sign-ups close. Please ensure it's complete and unlocked by the end of 28 April.

If you're wondering what to put in your letter, try browsing through the dear creator or dear writer tags at the community, and use the letters you like as a model.

Here's a possible template for linking:

<strong>AO3 name</strong>: [HERE] <strong>Letter link</strong>: [HERE] [Name of song] - [art/fic/podfic?] [Name of song] - [...] [Name of song] - [...] [Name of song] - [...]

All requests are also visible on AO3.

Opting out of treats

AO3 now allows users to set their accounts to only accept assigned gifts and not to accept treats, and accounts created after 6 February 2022 have treats disabled by default. If you've chosen not to accept gifts other than your assignment, or if you just don't want treats in general, please note this in your signup. You can also opt out of certain kinds of treats, if for example you'd like art treats but not fic or vice-versa. Otherwise it will be assumed that any treats are welcome and appreciated.

Finally, a question from the mods

With the requests visible on AO3, and more people using karanguni's exchange app, do people still find letters posts like this one useful? Obviously this one is here and it isn't going anywhere, but we'd like to know how the community feels going forward.

Letters are optional. Whether or not you write one is up to you. Some people like the tradition and the opportunity to organise and format their prompts according to personal style.

If you're writing a letter to potential authors/artists/podfic artists, you can link it here or at the equivalent post on LJ. You can also put your whole letter in a comment or series of comments here, if you don't have a journal or similar to host it on. Wherever you put it, please include the link in your sign-up on AO3.

If writing a letter, please make sure it's complete and public by 14 April.

If you're wondering what to put in your letter, try browsing through the 'dear creator' or 'dear writer' tags on the DW or LJ comm, and use the letters you like as a model for your own. I suggest you include the following information at a minimum:
-your AO3 name
-the songs you're requesting
-the medium or media you're requesting for each song
-the prompts and DNWs you entered into your sign-up.

You may wish to use your letter to expand on your sign-up prompts, or just include lists of tropes you like or dislike.

Here's a possible template for linking your letter here. Use it if you find it convenient:

This year, the requests will also be visible on AO3 during the sign-up period.

If you have chosen to write a letter to the person or people who will create gifts for you, please link it here or at the equivalent post on LJ. (Or put the whole letter in a comment, if you don't have another space to post it.)

Letters are optional! You don't have to write a letter. However, if you do, please complete it by the end of 10 April in your timezone, so that your assigned creator can see it as soon as possible after getting their assignment. Letters are also a way of encouraging people to offer the things you're requesting.

When commenting with your letter, please include:
-your AO3 name
-the link
-the musical pieces you're asking for
-the media you're asking for, for each song (podfic, fanart, fanfic).
